Just let me clarify the term Hack.. I’m talking about the one who takes on the meaning

 ‘..To chop or cut with rough or heavy blows’ 

rather than 

‘the Hack- to use a computer to gain unauthorized access to data system.’
 

I’ve written a story or two and begun to research the possibility of publishing one. 

My journey begins.  I have limited understanding of this industry so I have been constantly linked with the following
1) YouTube 2)  social media 3) online courses on what to do next. 

4) Creative writing Courses
All these mediums say it is imperative to set up a platform.

Righto I’m an old hand at setting up websites no problem. It’s been a couple of years but I have set up business websites before. I knew I could figure it out.. hahaha

The first step was to YouTube a procedure .
‘How to set up a website in 27 easy stages’
It’s easy the host boasts
‘no problem at all!’
‘Using Word press is a simple way to work it out. But first you need to get a host and a domain.’

Well in the past I knew that domains and hosting can vary dramatically in price. I put the video on hold and went straight to the old faithful.. Godaddy.
Download domain for 15 dollars… check! 

Downloaded hosting; there were a lot of extra checks such as ssl backup etc. I did not choose them all but I thought perhaps a back up would be a wise move. 117 dollars later. I was all set with domian and hosting.

 With the package I got a number of ‘Free services for one year!’

A note which is really important to know is Nothing is for nothing.  The free portions your receive for 12 months will then be automatically direct debited off your credit card the following year. so set a reminder on your calendar if you do not wish to pay for these in the future. 
You can manually change this and I would recommend you certainly do that.

So on I go with the Youtube setup. The host states there are a lot of places to get domains he recommended someone else other then my old faithful. Went through the procedure and informed his viewers to untick ALL the bells and whistle extras.
Face turning a slight shade of pink. I pondered why I did not watch the whole video through before I started on my journey and started paying out funds.

‘Oh well I at least I will know for next time. Besides I’m saving a minor fortune doing this myself.’ 

Christmas is coming up and in the long run I will be good!
Deep breath .. Sigh once more and continue on..
‘Now all you need to do is take the host and link it to WordPress through this domain link..’

Right I’m back on track.. Great I thought

WTF!!

So as an illiterate computer geek I have no idea what the heck that even means.
It had never been this hard before.
Needless to say I spent hours fumbling around trying in vain to fix this challenge.  It was no use, flustered and red face I thought I would reach out to a professional.
Well, me thinks, I will ring go daddy and get the help of a professional.

Just shy of another hour of my life dwindled away with the intermittent comment from a recording of a calm and bubbly American accented girl who was at first comforting. The wait was to be only 12 minutes after all; according to the lovely voiced American girl. The girls sing song voice promised she could not wait to exceed my expectations!
I was at first determined to have my expectations exceeded. However it begins to drain. Accelerating as the 12 minute wait turns to 45 minutes.
Behold! at last, a male American accent comes on the phone.
‘How can I help you.’

I begin my spiel taking time to explain what I had done and how I could not link to WordPress. The impatience from the representative was evident and further amplified as after less then two minutes he hung the phone up in my ear. An email was sent to tell me if I wished to connect to word 365 use..
Flabbergasted ! I Could not believe it. My go daddy support was so bad and so stressful I wondered what could I do next.

So after slavishly trying to get more help from the 24 7 company; I gave up. Instead turning to a great IT professional. We had worked together on a number of projects before. With pure skill and spunk he was able to get me back on track.
